“You are what you eat”
You may’ve heard that said before; and I am sorry if it conjures any sense of guilt, certainly not intended.
It brings up something fundamental about us as food-consuming creatures: the materials our bodies are made from are the molecules we consume.
We are the product of what we’ve taken in. Even the air I breathe changes me.
Certainly in my life there are some things I wish I hadn’t eaten. Similarly, there are moments which have changed my nature along the way which have not lead me towards better connection with myself, others, the world, God.
I can do all the research I want about a healthy diet, talk to all the experts willing to give me time.
And still that will not change the nature of what I am consuming.
What does change it? Doing something differently.
Some of those “Something”s can be pretty big, for sure.
Yet it’s the small “something”s I find have made the largest difference in my life. The small moments when I acted out of who I know I want to be by flossing one time more than I used to, said a kind word when urges pulled me toward spewing nastiness.
Some of those “something”s I couldn’t see on my own, many I still don’t see without other eyes and minds being with me in community.
So I am in process of change, of having what I surround myself with and what I take in change me for the better (or at least not for the worse). I am looking for ways I can give positively to those around me whether that is time or tea or whatever will aim us in a better direction.
I want to live a life worth living and a life worth sharing.
Do you?
